Artist Statement and Biography

Norma Barsness
Birchcliff, Alberta

About the Artist:

Norma Barsness’ paintings transport us to a place where time stands still. Her compositions portray quiet time, yet powerful images of wind and movement can be seen. Her paintings are richly complex and filled with color, peacefulness and at times humor. They tempt those who choose to look beyond the mundane and to experience a unique and timeless look at simple life. Formerly from Calgary, the artist now resides in Central Alberta and paints scenes familiar to her. She works to induce emotion and attain a particular aesthetic, rather than portray a specific place. The viewer is drawn in by her brilliant colors and bold brushstrokes, which define her signature style.

Artist Statement:
Celebrate each of life’s moments by viewing nature and simple everyday life experiences. I attempt to have an impact of what may be viewed as commonplace, and make into something quite special.
